Baobab Hill House

Nestled in the northernmost corner of Kruger National Park, where the Limpopo and Luvuvhu Rivers meet, the place where our story began, in partnership with the Makuleke people, whose ancestral land breathes life into every experience. Pafuri is a true sanctuary at Kruger’s northern edge, in the Makuleke Contract Park, a place where wilderness still reigns. From lush forests to open savannas, it is alive with birdsong, movement, and meaning. With over 450 bird species, it becomes a living classroom for the curious, a sanctuary of wings and song.

Baobab Hill House is a secluded sanctuary for those seeking privacy and stillness. Perched on a ridge north of the Luvuvhu River and shaded by ancient baobabs, this intimate four-bedroom home blends heritage with comfort. Once the Pafuri ranger station, it has been transformed into a serene escape steeped in history and story. The house features a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and spacious lounge, perfect for quiet reflection or gathering with loved ones. Its signature veranda evokes classic safari romance, a place for long afternoons, sundowners, and stargazing. Guests also enjoy a private guide and open safari vehicle for game drives or walking excursions (by prior arrangement). Exclusive-use 4-bedroom bush house (accommodates a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 guests). Includes two private game drives per day, with a private guide, camp hand, and cook.

Available on self-catering or fully catered bases, Baobab Hill House offers not only comfort and choice, but a deeper connection to the wild rhythms of Pafuri.

Driving directions:
From Johannesburg:
Take the N1 North from Johannesburg towards Louis Trichardt (Makhado) — approximately 430 km. Continue on the N1 for another ±60 km, winding over the Soutpansberg Mountains and through the Louis Trichardt Tunnels (formerly the Verwoerd Tunnels). Roughly 500 metres after the Baobab Toll Plaza, turn right onto the R525 towards Tshipise. Stay on the R525 for ±135 km, following the signs all the way to Pafuri Gate, the northernmost entrance to Kruger National Park. After entering the park and paying your conservation fees, drive 22 km along the tar road inside the park. Look out for a left turn onto a gravel road, signposted Pafuri Camp. This turn is approximately 150 metres before the Luvuvhu River bridge. Important note: If you cross the river bridge, you’ve gone too far—turn back! From the turn-off, follow the gravel road into the Makuleke Contract Park and continue as directed to reach Pafuri Camp, Baobab Hill House, or the Walking Camps. The road is passable by most vehicles.
